How Much Does Eating Out Really Cost You - DM 94

How much do you think you actually spend on eating out? Hey, it's Jon from Financial MD, and welcome to today's Didactic Minute.

Now, I'm downtown in East Lansing and I just picked up some Chipotle because I was hungry and I was downtown. So the question becomes – because I'm asking myself – how much do we actually spend on eating out? Going out, the quick thing, 5 bucks here – well, nothing's 5 bucks anymore; 10 bucks here, 15 here…whatever. Inflation's killing us. Stuff's expensive, but we got to eat. Are we putting ourselves in the right situation? Are we preparing? And if so, are we keeping under our budget?

Now that's a tough one because stopping ourselves from eating, providing ourselves sustenance, living every day, it's just hard and it's so easy to compromise and tell ourselves, "Hey, I can eat this. Few bucks here, few bucks there. I got to eat, right?" Sure, we'll talk ourselves into that versus packing yourself chicken and rice and broccoli, vegetables…whatever…I don't know. I'm not saying I'm perfect at it and clearly I just went out to get some Chipotle. But think about it. Add it up. Do that right now. I would challenge you.
